Festivals

Though Karachi’s calendar features majority of Muslim religious festivals, the city also offers a number of other events and festivals either in memory of National Heroes or to commemorate political or cultural events. A few of them are as follows.

Kara Film Festival:
It is an internationally recognized film festival of Pakistan which is annually held in the city of Karachi. The Kara Film Society hosts this film festival. This society is a not-profit, non-political and non-governmental body. The society also offers screenings, talks and workshops about movies throughout the year.

The All Pakistan Music Conference: Karachi Annual Festival:
The All Pakistan Music Conference organizes the annual Festival at the National Academy of Performing Arts, Hindu Gymkhana in Karachi. It offers seminars and performances of classical and folk music and dances too. This festival is a grand celebration of music that offers performances of some great maestros.

Eid-ul-Fitr:
This religious festival celebrates the end of fasting month. Muslims recite their special prayer after sun-rise, exchange sweet dishes and visit their friends and relatives.

It is a religious festival celebrated by prayers, fire works, exchange of sweet dishes and visits.

Eid-ul-Azha:
It is a religious festival which commemorates the great sacrifice offered by Prophet Abraham. The festival features collective prayers after sun set, sacrifice of goats, sheep, cows or camels and distribution of meat among relatives, friends and poor people.

Pakistan Day:
This day is celebrated as the anniversary of Pakistan Resolution passed on March 23, 1940. On Pakistan day, military parades are arranged in Islamabad as well as in the provincial capitals of country.

It is a birth anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad.

Commemorates the birthday of Allama Muhammad Iqbal who is well-known as a national poet of Pakistan.

Defense of Pakistan Day:
The day commemorates the military's role and importance in the protection of Pakistan. One can watch and enjoy the parades and exhibitions of military equipment at Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi.

Jinnah Day:
On this day, the Pakistani citizens commemorate the death anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.
